This mask originates from the west coast of Africa primarily in the Mali/Senegal region. Usually brightly adorned an overlaid with metal foil for ornamentationl The marka used these masks for circumcision ceremonies, and when men advanced up the social ladder. They were also used in fishing and farming related ceromonies.
